Stuff...

Playing Nerf football with the kids:
Me (after diving for a spiral sent to me by George which has left a burning sensation in my knee!) "I'm too old for this!"
Mimi (watching on the side lines)
"You mean you're not new??"

I have discovered what my super power is: INVISIBILITY...obviously, since no one listens or pays attention to me!!!!

Happy Holidays!

Every year the same...I get my shopping done early and don't start wrapping until 11:00 Christmas Eve night. Oi vey.
George fell asleep and snored again during our Christmas Eve service--something about Dudley's voice lulls him into lala land!
Mimi started farting silent but deadly ones about 15 minutes into the service...
Pulled a VERY botched scam on the Knolls with our plastic Santa. THEY WEREN'T SUPPOSED TO BE HOME!!!! I suck supremely at driving getaway...I stopped, frozen by fear and then turned myself in. Yes, I am a loser. Better luck next year with the blow up nativity scene.
Watched the Polar Express which scared the crap out of the kids...We've been reading the book every day for the past three weeks and I thought it would be nice to show them the movie. To quote the great Borat: "NOT."
Anyway...Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, Happy Festivus!! Whatever you celebrate or don't celebrate--do it with gusto!!!!!
Now off to bed only to get up early and start the food fest!!!!!!!

WARNING: Sex Education Lesson

Well, I wasn't going to blog this, but I can't resist.
Driving home the other day with only Mimi and Vinny, this was the conversation:
"Mama?..."
"Yes, Mimi."
"How did Vincent get in your tummy?"
(ignore--silence--maybe she'll forget she asked me that, because I am NOT the mother who will say an angel puts babies in your tummy!)
"Mama...I'm talking to you. How did Vincent get in your tummy?"
"Well...Daddy put him him there." (That should suffice, right??)
"Mama?"
"Yes, Mimi..."
"How? How did Daddy put Vinny in your tummy?"
(omg.)
"Well, Daddy and Mommy were napping, and when they woke up, Vinny was in Mommy's tummy." (Score!)
"When you were sleeping?"
"Yes, Mimi."
"And did Vinny come from your tootie?"
(It always comes back to that!)
"Yes, that's how some babies come out."
"But how did he come out?"
"You have to push really hard and he pops out, and the doctor grabs him!"
(long period of silence. Could this finally be over??)
"Mama..."
"Yes, Mimi?"
"I don't want to push a baby out of my tootie right now. That would be owie."
(Oh, thank goodness!)

So...there you have it. She asked, I answered. And...we have already had the "what makes a baby" discussion, which I told her almost everything. She just said, 'OK." I did omit how sperm and eggs actually find each other--thought she might be traumatized. Sorry, Sara...I know I used the "s" word!!!!!!

Wow!

I would just like to say that Jason's choir kicked serious choral ass today. Yes, I used the word ass. It was THAT good!

Spreading Holiday Cheer!

Here are a couple of short excerpts from our Cherub & Children's Choirs' performances last Wednesday. The Children's Choir presented "An Island Christmas" and did a smashing job! This was one of my favorites in the show...the Cherubs were just plain cute...thanks, Julie!

Birthdays, good cheer and such...

Today is Natan's third birthday, and I can't believe it! 3!!!! We had a little "party" with chocolate cake--he ate three pieces and seemed satisfied with that! Blew out is own candles with great gusto and can now proudly hold up three fingers for his age. We're still working on him knowing it's actually his birthday!! All in good time...
Spent yesterday at Jason's school in the morning--lots of fun seeing my old coworkers...
Then, on to Egelston to deliver the kids' toys, blankets and stuffed animals to the Child Life folks. Mimi and George did not like the idea at first but agreed afterward that they felt very good, knowing that kids who are sick in the "hospiter" would feel a little better with a new toy...mission accomplished.
Mimi got to have big bed snuggles last night and told me this morning that she "enjoyed the snuggles and just having girl time with Mommy." We are having a girls' day out later this week--her idea!
Christmas, the new cat, is adjusting somewhat. Between being chased by the dogs and groped by one of four kids, he is doing surprisingly well! he is a gorgeous kitty, and being 8 years old, he is pretty cool and laid back. Thank goodness--Jason now has an equal in the house!!
So...just getting ready to have about 20 or so in the house for Christmas dinner. Jason is making his now annual Flaming Figgy Pudding...
Ahhh...life is good!

Why?

Why?
Why did Jason give recorders to the three big kids?
Why?
They can't play them--they just toot.
Why?
Sure...he gets misty eyed and says, "It's cute--they're only little once."
Why?
Tomorrow morning, when it's early and they are tooting, he will be sitting in his quiet classroom, waiting for students to come in...there won't be any tooting.
Why?
why.
toot. toot. toot. toot.
